CircSyst Brings Circular Economy Solutions Closer to the European Market

The CircSyst project, coordinated by the Technological Institute for Children’s and
Leisure Products (AIJU), has reached a decisive milestone by demonstrating that its
circular economy solutions are viable, scalable and replicable across Europe.
The initiative, funded by the European Commission through Horizon Europe and under
the umbrella of the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI), has already succeeded in
bringing its initial results to market and in establishing innovative models for waste
recovery in three strategic areas: water, bio-waste and plastics.

The development of sustainable packaging solutions is one of the key areas of the circular economy. Within the CircSyst project, Ugrinpack and Szimbio Lab are not only working on the introduction of already available environmentally friendly packaging alternatives, but also on the development and testing of new, innovative materials. For this reason, during the first half of the project, significant emphasis was placed on examining alternative packaging materials, with particular attention to bio-based and biodegradable solutions.

The lead partner of the CircSyst project, AIJU, , jointly to the partner UPV organised a workshop on April 14, 2026 in Spain, during which policy recommendations relevance, feasibility, and potential impact, previously proposed among 150 stakeholders were evaluated and its impact and feasibility quantified. This had the aim of strengthening circular economy-related policies at both regional and European levels. The focus was on advancing recycling, enhancing the sustainability of the plastics industry, and improving solutions for packaging and biowaste management.
