DEMO 5: Flexible and Intelligent Biorefinery Approach

Location: Päijät-Häme-Lahti (Finland)

DEMO 5 in Päijät-Häme-Lahti aims to recover valuable materials from various waste sources—agricultural, industrial, and municipal—to produce PHA biopolymers, fertilisers, and more. The mobile pilot biorefinery will operate at different industrial sites, assessing the flexibility and efficiency of the processes. Led by LAB and UH, this pilot will showcase a sustainable model for bio-waste recovery that can adapt to diverse raw materials and environments.

DEMO 6: Valorisation Routes of Bagasse Waste

Location: Castilla-La Mancha (Spain)

DEMO 6 in Castilla-La Mancha focuses on transforming bagasse waste from beer production into valuable materials for the plastics and healthcare industries. This pilot will design and validate a treatment plant to extract valuable compounds such as hydrolysed proteins and polyphenols, and to assess the use of lignin fibres in plastic products. The project, led by UPV and involving partners like LPernía, AIJU, ACTECO, RIPAY, and CABKA, aims to scale up these processes from laboratory to industrial level, including a feasibility study for the industrial setup.
