Compressive strength testing of mycelium-based materials

Márföldi Dóra

The study examined the compressive properties of mycelium-based composite materials intended for packaging applications. The tests were carried out in accordance with the ISO 844 standard, which specifies methods for determining the compression properties of rigid cellular materials.

During the testing process, the composite specimens were subjected to controlled compressive loading in order to evaluate their mechanical behaviour, deformation and resistance under pressure. The aim was to assess whether the developed mycelium-based materials have suitable properties for potential use in sustainable packaging solutions.

The accompanying table presents the results of the compressive strength tests, including the measured mechanical performance of the tested specimens and the data obtained during compression. These results provide information on the material’s strength, stability and ability to withstand loads relevant to packaging applications.
