Compatibilization strategies for mPET (mechanically recycled PET) waste-FTIR data
The analysis focuses on the evaluation of different strategies to improve the compatibility of multilayer PET (mPET) waste and support its potential reuse in new material applications.
Three different compatibilization approaches were investigated. The first strategy uses different compatibilizing additives at concentrations between 3 and 5 phr. The second approach evaluates a chain extender additive at concentrations ranging from 0.5 to 1.5 phr. The third strategy investigates the effect of adding 10–30 wt% low-density polyethylene (LDPE) to the mPET formulation.
Before analysis, each formulation was homogenized using a twin-screw extruder, and the original mPET waste was also processed for comparison. The resulting formulations were then analysed by FTIR spectroscopy to identify the functional groups present and to assess interactions and compatibility between the different components.
The accompanying Excel files contain the formulations, additive concentrations and analytical results obtained for the different compatibilization strategies. These data support the comparison of the tested approaches and the identification of suitable methods for improving the performance and recyclability of mPET-based materials.
The files will be made publicly available on April 21, 2028.
