CircSyst participates in key Circular Economy events
Article written by Cristina Sanz Rutherford, Project and Stakeholder Engagement Officer.
As part of its mission to promote Circular Systemic Solutions (CSS) and foster collaboration, the CircSyst project has been actively engaging with the circular economy community by attending and contributing to significant events in the field.
These kinds of activities are essential not only to strengthen the project’s stakeholder network but also to raise awareness and advocate for the adoption of circular practices among different key actors.
In October 2024, CircSyst was presented at the event “Circular Economy: Innovation and the Future in the Plastic Sector and Territory”, organised by CircSyst’s project coordinator AIJU, in Alicante (Spain). The event served as a platform for sharing knowledge, tools, and strategies that empower businesses to address the challenges of transitioning towards a circular economic model. CircSyst was presented by Cristina Sanz on behalf of EURADA, and presented the project’s large-scale pilot system, showcasing innovative approaches to wastewater reuse, biowaste valorisation, and food packaging recycling, tested through 9 demonstrators across Europe. This event also included interactive round tables where businesses shared success stories, offering inspiration for integrating circularity into their operations. A key takeaway from the event was the critical role of public-private collaboration in driving sustainable innovation.
Moreover, as a project of the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI) umbrella, CircSyst participated in the 3rd Coordination and Support Workshop of the CCRI in November 2024. The workshop, entitled “Making circular investments pay off for cities and regions”, gathered more than 120 investors, cities, regions, and businesses in Brussels, and focused on scaling through funding, as well as on the importance of moving from policy development to practical implementation. Stakeholders from across Europe, including the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the OECD, discussed strategies to make circular investments viable and scalable. Presentations highlighted key resources like the Circular City Funding Guide and collaborative tools for advancing industrial symbiosis.
The workshop also featured thematic discussions on bioeconomy, where innovative approaches such as industrial symbiosis and bio-based business models were explored. Such dialogues reinforced the need for partnerships that bridge technology, governance, and finance to accelerate the adoption of circular practices, and further stressed the need to make circular solutions attractive for investors.
Through its active participation in these events, CircSyst not only showcased its work but also engaged in vital conversations with stakeholders in the field, that align with its vision of a sustainable circular economy. By connecting with industry leaders, policymakers, and investors, the project will position itself as a player in Europe’s circular transition.
